And so an artist is that person who has an idea about the world, generally an aesthetic idea. I want to start with a few basic terms so that we're on the same page here. So anyway, we want to look at it composition, design. And so we're going to steal a little bit back for our concept side of things. So filmmakers have stolen a lot from the painters over the years, all the old masters they're great teachers. We will get into mythology, storytelling principles and filmmaking because that's visual storytelling. And then we're going to get heavily into it. And we're going to touch on that concept idea right away.

And we're going to start there today, but what we're going to find very quickly is composition is really design plus concept. Composition normally is dealt with as just a design problem.
Today, we're going to talk about the basic elements of composition. Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress. After completing this course, you will gain a deep understanding of art philosophy and composition what you need for creating successful artworks. Moreover, you will watch Steve develop a composition for a painting from start to finish. Since this course was filmed during a live workshop, you will also be tuning in to his Q&A sessions and critiques of students’ works.
